The Manitoba Hands Free Law Comes Into Effect June 11th, 2010

Manitoba Hands Free Cell Phone Law – Quick Facts

The hands free law in Manitoba will become official in the summer of 2010. Bill 5, under The Highway Traffic Amendment Act was passed on June 11th, 2009. The law will be actively enforced exactly one year later, on June 11th, 2010.

There are many aspects contained in the bill aimed at “promoting safer and healthier conditions in motor vehicles”.

If you are a driver who uses a cell phone, this law will effect you in a number of ways while you are behind the wheel, However, the good news is that there are many Hands Free Solutions on the market that can enable you to stay productive while in your vehicle.

Some quick facts about the new cell phone law:

  • You will not be able to hold the device while you drive
  • You will not be able to operate the device by hand (ie. dialing numbers or writing texts).
  • You will not be allowed to look at the display while you drive or operate any of the functions by hand
