Saskatchewan Made Hands Free The Law on January 1st, 2010
On January 1st, 2010, The province of Saskatchewan made it illegal to use hand-held cellphones to talk, text, email or surf the Internet while driving.
“Distracted driving is a serious road safety issue,” Minister responsible for SGI June Draude said. “With the passing of this law we are fulfilling our commitment to make provincial roadways safer.”
Quick Facts:
- Experienced drivers will still be permitted to use hands free devices and services while behind the wheel. For new drivers who are still in a graduated licensing program, no cell phones (including hands free) will be permitted while driving.
- The fine for violating this new piece of legislation is $280, as well as four demerit points.
